Odds Are's Recap of the Conduit Show

January 20th, 2006

What a rock night this was! Last night we performed at the Conduit in Trenton, NJ. It was our first time there, and this was a pretty cool place - very large rooms, good size stage, nice sound system and lighting.

The night began with a lot less chaos than we have typically had, luckily. I don't think we could have handled two crazy shows in one week. We had already been packed so the plan basically just fell into place.

The night began with the Laura Cheadle Band and the Plutonics, who both did an excellent job on stage. Midway through the evening, our rowdy fans burst through the doors after some pre-show partying at a local bar... Nice to see you guys! They were all in good spirits and ready for the performance, which was great.

We got on stage around 11:30pm, pretty much just on time. The set list for the evening was as follows: "By My Side" (our newest song), "The Ledge", "Suffocating","The Slamming Door", "Zombie" by the Cranberries, "Got No Time For You", "You Know It All", "Perfection", "You Oughta Know" by Alanis Morissette, and "Abandon Me".

Of course, what performance wouldn't be complete without some chaos... Mid way through "Zombie", Jaime's microphone started to drop. Jaime was playing guitar as well as singing during this song, so it was doubly complicated for her. But, like a true performer, she crouched down slightly and continued singing her vocals... She managed to hold down the guitar too! Morgan, the band manager, and the Conduit's staff ran to Jaime's rescue and re-positioned the microphone. Jaime received a double helping of audience screams once the song completed since she managed to push through the fun of technical difficulties.

So then, we get to "You Know It All", and Bang Bang takes a drum solo. He managed to surprise both the audience and the rest of the band members by standing up half way through and continuing to solo from that position. It was very nicely done. In a very rock moment, Bang Bang tossed his drumsticks into the audience and grabbed a new pair... The flying sticks did manage to surprise some of the audience members though, and unfortunately someone lost their drink in the process... Bang Bang made sure to buy her a new drink and autograph her captured drumstick at the end of the evening.

"You Oughta Know" came with a lot of audience participation, which is always nice. Plenty of people decided to sing along. We thought the song was an appropriate choice for a night of female fronted rock... and the song led us into "Abandon Me" with a lot of energy, so we were able to wrap up the evening with some power.

All in all, this was a great night. These shows are becoming such a thrill for us, and it's great to talk with the audience after the performance to get some feedback - everyone has been so positive and it's been really nice for us.

And now for the Thank Yous: Thank you to the Conduit for having us perform at the club - we definitely had a blast! Thank you to our manager, Morgan, who always keeps the band together and can take care of any problem that flies our way (even flying drumsticks)! Thanks to Michelle, who as usual, helps keep us calm and make the pre-show events go a lot smoother than they would with us by ourselves! Thanks to Nick for helping with the equipment, it's always nice to have some extra help! Thanks to Charley Lolio, formerly a band member (and a major contributor to Odds Are's lyrics and music), for coming out to check out what we've become - we hope you were pleased! And thank you to all the people who took the time to come out and see us, you are always the greatest and we appreciate you incredibly. Hopefully you're getting as much out of this as we are. We love you all!

So we'll be playing literally next door to the Conduit next month at the 449 Room on February 16th, 2006... We'll also probably end up in the studio some time in the near future. We'll keep everyone updated with the current events, and hopefully we'll see you all at the 449 Room!
