So last night we played at the Khyber... It was our first time
playing in Philly, much less the Khyber, so of course the event came with a lot of pre-planning on our behalf. We most
certainly went above and beyond the "quota" that the Khyber had requested, so that was great and we thank all of you who
managed to come out and support us!
The pre-show drama was, well, a bit much... We have decided that Mother Nature might not be a fan of Odds Are,
because she certainly likes to mess with us from time to time. It's been 50 degrees every day this year until the
Saturday night before our show, where the weather suddenly has this wake up call and realizes that it's winter. Then
it proceeds to dump 6 inches of snow on the ground and terrorize all the band members who are trying to drive home and
make it alive so the next day's show can continue with all four of us. But whatever, the roads were fairly clear by
the time we started to travel. Sunday's method of torment from Mother Nature was a ridiculously powerful wind... And
since 3 out of 4 of us are female, we were not so thrilled with the destruction of our hair prior to the show. Loading
instruments back and forth on ice while trying to still be able to see through the hair whipping in your face was
actually a little dangerous, I must say.
So that was the environment's input to our pre-show drama. We decided to do a quick run-through of everything prior
to leaving for the show, which we're all really glad we did... because midway through our practice run-through, Bel
snapped a bass string. Then of course the chaos begins... Everyone's basically just running. Bel's running to the
store to get new strings, the rest of the band is running around trying to start packing up, band significant others
are running around trying to help... It was just crazy.
We finalized a plan and put it into action: off to Cherry Hill to meet the magnificent Dr. Andy at Guitar Center,
who would have our order ready upon our arrival. Which of course, he did. So we bought extra strings and changed the
broken one there at the store. Then we took off to fly over the bridge into Philadelphia so we can be on time for our
6:30pm load in...
So finally we get there, we're all set up, and the show begins. The set list for the night was: Got No Time For You,
The Ledge, By My Side, Abandon Me, The Slamming Door, and You Know It All. This evening's performance was the debut
of the song By My Side... It seemed to go over well and we received some compliments on it after the show. Thanks,
guys!
The show was great. The Khyber has a large stage, which was good and gave us plenty of room. The audience was
awesome, responding well to our performance. And we spent a good portion of the evening talking with members of
Shutter and Carson's Machine. Very nice guys!
Thanks to everyone who made it out to the Khyber to come see us, you are always appreciated and I hope we
continue to see you in the future! Thanks to Shutter, DeSoto Rust, and Carson's Machine, you guys did great!
Thanks to our always wonderful manager, Morgan Harris, for all the great things you do for us, you always deliver
for our gigs and we love you for it! Thanks to Michelle, you were so wonderfully calm and together and organized
while the world was shattering for the rest of the band under the pressure of everything... so thank you for taking
care of all of us the way you did! And thanks to the Khyber and Heyday Entertainment for setting us up with this show.
We hope to see you all this Friday, January 20th, at the Conduit in Trenton! We'll be performing a much longer
set that night, so you'll get even more Odds Are that night. See a band member or send us an e-mail at
contact@oddsare.net if you would like tickets ($7). See you then!
