Odds Are's Recap of the Saint Show

April 15th, 2006

So Saturday, April 15th was the first day of the new no smoking law in New Jersey... And the Saint had asked Odds Are to come perform and kick off the new law at the club.

What a great night of music! The evening began with acoustic guitarist Michael Brett, who has a unique and entertaining style about his performance. Then it was our turn.

We kicked off the set with "Got No Time For You", and basically ran through the rest of our hard hitting songs for the night. The Saint is an original music only venue, so there were no covers, just pure Odds Are music. The set was as follows:
Got No Time For You
By My Side
The Ledge
You Know It All
The Slamming Door
Abandon Me
Who I Am

During the set, Bang Bang unfortunately put a stick through the head of one of his drums, but the good news is that the rest of the audience (and the band, for that matter) was completely unaware and he held down the rest of the set without it.

The crowd seemed very responsive this evening, which was definitely nice! There were plenty of shouts for us throughout the set, which we always appreciate.

After our set, Honey Spot Blvd was up. These people were awesome! Really tight band, really nice people, very enjoyable. We definitely had a good time getting to know them, and we enjoyed their set! Turns out they're from Trenton, so perhaps we'll run into them again in the future... Local Hero and Justin King finished out the night, and it was a really great night of music. The Saint really did a good job of selecting appropriate bands to make a cohesive night.

So there were two other highlights from this particular evening that we thought we'd share with you:
1) There is now a hot dog vendor parked outside of the Saint, selling Sabrett dirty water dogs! You can guarantee that Odds Are endulged after the show...
2) As you might be aware, many of the Odds Are band members have been in other local bands before. Bel & Laura are from a local band called Adam's Ghost, which used to perform frequently at the Saint from 1999 - 2004. One of the sound guys from the Saint remembered this, and had a discussion about Adam's Ghost vs. Odds Are. The sound guy said that Odds Are was much more rock and definitely a tighter band, and that "the songwriting for Odds Are is much better". You have no idea how happy this made us.

So what's up now? Well, Odds Are will be back out there at Brannigan's on May 12th, and at the United Way Benefit at the Conduit on June 23rd. Also, we're back in the studio May 13th to finalize our recordings and hopefully have a good CD that we can share with our fans! And of course, we have to take a moment to celebrate Bang Bang's upcoming birthday!

So that's what's going on for now. We hope to see you at Brannigan's in May and at the Conduit in June!
